Established Setting

Because intellectual properties can have an overwhelming amount of legacy detail, I prefer to send minute needs(ie, specific individual coloring and iconic weapons, etc) as they apply to the individual assignment.

For an established setting , I like to define "pillars", with several successful illustration examples of each. This has a few benefits:

it gives parameters of look and feel that are difficult to technically dictate, but easy to visually intuit
it uses minimal text (for English Language Learners and visual people generally)
it gets artists excited about the setting itself instead of just their assignment in isolation, making a vastly more coherent product.

This document is still in use for projects in this setting at Fantasy Flight Games and the Asmodee franchise team.
